Beeston Castle was originally occupied by a Bronze Age settlement and an Iron Age hill fort. In 1225, the Earl of Chester Ranulf de Blundeville, founded an impressive 13th century stone enclosure and bailey castle which towers over the local countryside from its sheer rocky outcrop.
As part of the English Heritage group, Beeston Castle is a very popular tourist attaction, with most visitors reaching the top of the castle which affords a view over eight counties on a clear day.
